5 Steps to NDIS Registration for Your Small Business

# 1 Complete the online registration application

As well as providing details of your business and it's key personnel, you will be asked to complete some service delivery questions. Your answers will determine the modules of the NDIS Practice Standards that you will be audited against. You will also be asked to complete a self assessment of your work practice systems and processes against the applicable NDIS practice standards.

After submitting your online application, you will receive an email with an attachment that you need for the next step, your "Initial Scope of Audit".

# 2 Engage an approved quality auditor

You will need to request quotes from approved quality auditor(s) of your choice. Shop around to find one who understands the nature and scope of your business and the needs and priorities of your participants. Your auditor can't advise you or educate you, but they play a vital role in identifying the weaknesses in your systems and processes that impact the quality and safety of your services. They can help you to identify, prioritise and target your improvement activities to make your business more successful and sustainable. They can make determinations about if your systems conform with the required NDIS Practice Standards, or conform with elements of best practice.

# 3 Undergo an audit

A Stage 1 or desktop audit is conducted for both a verification and a certification audit. The policies, procedures, forms, registers and other documents that you have in place to guide your operations are reviewed against the requirements of the applicable standards. For a certification audit a Stage 2 Audit or site visit is then conducted to review your records and other evidence that work practice is carried out in accordance with the requirements of your policies, procedures etc.

If your systems and work practice is found to comply with the requirements of the applicable NDIS Practice Standards, your auditor will recommend to the NDIS Commission that your application for NDIS registration progress to the next step.

# 4 Suitability Assessment

The NDIS Commission conducts an assessment of the suitability of your organisation and its key personnel to deliver supports and services to people with disability.

# 5 Receive NDIS Registration Application Decision

If your application is successful, you will receive a Certificate of Registration, listing the registration groups or services you are registered to provide, the period of registration and any conditions on your registration. You must comply with all conditions of registration, including the NDIS Practice Standards and NDIS Code of Conduct.

Your business name will be added to the list of NDIS providers published on the NDIS Commission’s Provider Register. This register will include details about your registration as well as any relevant compliance action taken in relation to your organisation.

If your application is unsuccessful, the NDIS Commission will tell you why. You may request a review within three months of the decision. If, following review, your application is determined to be unsuccessful, you may seek a further review from the Administrative Appeals Tribunal.
